Ilana Donna Arazie: 5 Ways to Think Happy

We all know that life spent navigating the hectic pace of New York City can be overwhelming, even frustrating. I ran into a friend the other day, and when I asked how she was doing, I got a shrug and an "eh..." like she was some crotchety old grandpa about to tell me about her sciatica. Apparently the city had been wearing on her. But why let it be a buzzkill? Life is way too short to be kvetchy.

If you ask me, Groucho Marx had it right: "Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead; tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."

Of course, we're only human; I, too, get into ruts, succumb to fits of rage and have my fair share of meltdowns. I am Jewish, after all, and I fight my neurotic, negative tendencies every day. I think Moses must have included these lovely traits with the Ten Commandments when he passed them down to my people.

Here are some techniques that keep me focused on happy, calming thoughts. And yes, unicorns, rainbows and cute little black dresses are included.

Focus on What You've Got
You can't afford your favorite sushi restaurant, the pressure of the holidays is getting to you and the last time you cuddled with someone you liked, Obama was still popular. Well, we all have our share of inconveniences. But what in your life is going right? When you put your energy toward dwelling on what's wrong, you get stuck there. Instead, focus on the good things you have going on. Soon you'll not only feel better, but you'll also draw more good things your way. Having trouble finding a few things to be grateful for? Hot showers and sugared cereal count!

Lose (the Illusion of) Control
Dharma Punx leader Josh Korda once explained to me why we get so down and out in the big city. He said we base our identity on things that are constantly changing: work, friends, our bodies... Everything in life is constantly in motion and out of our control. Korda's advice? Let it all roll around you, but base your true identity on your deeper self. Really, the only thing you can control is the way you react to the changes around you. So sit back, flow with the chaos around you and don't let it make you nuts.

Forget Your Goals
We put so much pressure on ourselves to be the best, the smartest and the fastest. When we fall short, boy do we get cranky. Not even Superman himself could be the perfect hero. Yoga principles teach us to be goalless, which might make any city-dweller go mad. But what if your goal every day were to feel joy or simply to be content? You might be surprised to find your greatest achievements grow from that peace.

Endorphin It Up
Sure, you can drink all night, but exercise and yoga give you the same or better effects naturally. Serotonin, the "feel-good" neurotransmitter, is released in your brain when working out. Yoga shifts life's energy around in your body so that you're in balance, which leaves you feeling happy and slightly stoned. Nothing wrong with that! Throw in a little meditation and green juice and you've got yourself a lovely, happy-go-lucky cocktail.

Be in the Now
You've heard it a million times on "Oprah" and from Eckhart Tolle, who writes, "Nothing ever happened in the past; it happened in the Now. Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now." We are only stressed when we are thinking about our future and past. If you concentrate on the present, you're golden! This moment creates the next, then that next moment creates the following one, and like a domino effect, you're on the right path.

Life's too short (or too long, for that matter) to feel miserable. Only you have the power to redirect yourself into the feel-good Now.

Amy Chan: Relationships: Time, Trust and Tango

Love and romantic relationships can be a very hard thing to understand at times. They're complex, irrational and emotional, and without a proper foundation, they're fragile. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to explain a feeling or emotion, your partner just can't seem to process a word you're trying to express. Confused, you are pegged as being overly sensitive or emotional. For the times when you're trying to find the words to explain the unexplainable, here are some metaphors and examples that can help put perspective on things:

Delivery: A wise man once told me that when you are asking your partner to do something, the delivery is the most important thing. Just like if you were a boss wanting your staff to come to work an hour earlier each morning, you can do it by force, fear or threats, or you can approach it in a more effective way. Offer them muffins in the morning and tell them what a fun and rewarding change it will be, and you're likely to get a more enthusiastic turnout for your earlier work start. Not only is how you communicate your needs important, but the timing is critical, too. You shouldn't bring up serious relationship talks the minute you feel the emotional urge to do so, but rather when there is an appropriate time and place, and ideally when you aren't in a heightened emotional state.

Time: Relationships can be compared to the growth of a garden: they need to be watered, groomed and tended to. If not, the flowers will wilt, and unwanted weeds will grow. Two people need to invest time, energy and effort into a relationship in order to keep it alive and healthy. Just like gardens, they do not run on auto-pilot, and no matter how busy or stressed you are in your life, if you don't tend to it, the relationship will suffer in one way or another. On the same token, relationships often take time to bud and grow. Plant seeds today and expect a beautiful rose garden by tomorrow, and surely you'll be disappointed. Sometimes, if you take a leap of faith, plant the seeds and allow them to grow and breathe, you may be pleasantly surprised by what a beautiful force of nature can grow out of it.

Trust: Trust is the glue of a relationship. Without it, many other issues will arise, but the root will often trickle back down to trust and security. It takes only seconds to break trust and what seems like a lifetime to build it back. It's not impossible, and if two people are committed to making it work, both have to work damn hard to get that foundation solid again. It means taking a leap of faith and not living in fear and anxiety for the shoe to drop. And for the person who betrayed the other, it means making that extra effort to be sensitive and considerate of how actions (or lack of them, for that matter) affect the partner. It means that reassurance and affirmation are needed, even if they seem tiring at times. Because when trust is in a fragile state, it's a lot easier for the pieces to fall apart than when it's stable. But it takes both people to do the work: if one person allows suspicion and paranoia to take control, and the other doesn't take that extra step to act and communicate in a way that reassures, the trust doesn't come back. Period.

Compassion: When one person gives and the other person gives, there is a beautiful balance in the relationship. This is not reality though, because there will always be someone who gives more and times when it's unequal. This is normal; however, if left unequal too long, the relationship can fall into a negative spiral. Suddenly, one person feels like they give too much and wants to hold back. Then the partner feels like not giving at all in response to the other's lack of giving and warmth. Sooner or later, both people in the relationship are in a vicious, negative cycle, and blame and disappointment seem to be inescapable. If one person doesn't eventually give up the ego, the fight, the resentment and angry charge, the relationship will combust. But if both take a step back to try and understand the other, take off the fighting gloves, show compassion (be it a nice gesture or even a really warm, reassuring hug), it can make a world of difference. Suddenly, one partner feeds off the positive energy and compassion, and it becomes contagious. But it takes two to tango, and even if there's a strong lead, both people need to take the steps.

A positive, healthy, loving relationship requires hard work and a lot of adjustment and negotiation. There are some battles just not worth fighting for, some differences that you have to accept will never change, and times when you have to agree to disagree. It's important to remember that we are all unique in how we receive love, give love and communicate love. Just because your partner doesn't show you love in the way you're used to doesn't mean they love you any less. Learning your partner's style and figuring out how to meet in the middle takes time, compassion and understanding. And if two people have the commitment and desire to make it work, and see the potential and value in the other person, then in time, it can become a very strong, healthy and peaceful union.

Swati Desai, Ph.D., LCSW: Materialism Is Not Bad... As Long As It's Tempered with Spirituality

President Obama had a hugely successful trip to India, a country that shares several political and economical values with the U.S. Amongst other things, he had an impressive question-and-answer session with students in Mumbai who asked him tough questions. One student referred to the modern, materialistic frame of thought, asking the president what methodologies a government could adopt to incorporate core spiritual values such as selflessness and brotherhood. The president pointed out the government's role in removing poverty and encouraging the spirit of "giving" and philanthropy.

The question raises an important issue relevant to our daily lives: could we and should we to seek material prosperity and spirituality at the same time? Note that the question is about both the "should" and the "could."

When I was growing up in a middle-class Brahmin family in the 1960s in India, the values around me taught me that the acquisition of knowledge is important in itself, regardless of the money that the knowledge might bring me. My father's old teacher, who was obviously of very modest means, was treated with utmost respect in our house. This India, although materialistically poor and politically left-leaning, was spiritually prosperous, known for its messages on how to transcend the perils of ordinary life. The U.S. at that time was spiritually wandering, materialistically prospering, on a tremendous upswing, believing in making one's own destiny, and lured by being the superpower in defense, technology and economics.

How things have changed since then! India is now materialistically prospering and spiritually confused. On the other hand, in the U.S. the realization has come about that material excesses do not give meaning to our lives and are an unreliable source of happiness.

Neither one of the countries seems to have a good grip on both at the same time. Why does it seem so tricky to mix materialism (in an economic sense) and spirituality? There are at least two reasons.

First, they have conflicting emphases. Spirituality implies connecting with the inner truth and the larger universal reality, outside our ordinary life experiences, and thus includes the inner sense of morality, as well as concern for humanity beyond our mere selfish interests. Economic materialism is very much about collecting and spending resources, particularly money and time. One is about the intangible spirit, and the other about daily life's concerns.

Secondly, materialism comes more naturally, in spite of the fact that we know that it often leads to a lifestyle that is perpetually wanting more, ruthlessly self-centered, desperately greedy and often taking pleasure in ostentatious displays as a source of power. Spirituality, on the other hand, it is much more difficult to pursue, in spite of the fact that we know that it is associated with long-term happiness and feeling the right thing.

This is what I suggest. The question of "should" we or "could" we mix these two in our life is not the right one, because for a common person to have a good and fulfilling life, it is inevitable to make a potion of both materialism and spirituality. In fact, we use one to balance the other in the following way:

We use spirituality as a greed- and envy-stopper. Spirituality, getting in touch with our inner and universal reality, would make it difficult for a materialist to engage in ruthlessly self-centered behavior, because any inner truth includes the innate human goodness. We allow the practice of spirituality to monitor the greed and envy, which seem to be at the heart of why materialism gets excessive, leaving the world around us a worse place.

We use materialism to stay in touch with the realities of daily life, recognizing that amassing resources is a source of security, survival and freedom to experience life. Desire is a life force, and when practiced with wisdom, it can create beauty. The wisdom lies in recognizing that modesty, cooperation and compassion, when combined with materialism, can indeed be a source of creativity, satisfaction, peace and prosperity. Spiritual values have the power to create such wisdom. The counter-balance to the perils of materialism can come from compassion -- a possible product of spiritual thinking. The Dalai Lama predicts that the 21st century will be happier because people have become more caring and compassionate.

However, there is one caveat! In order to understand this potion, you will need to know what it means by being without! If life hasn't already brought it to you, consider going to a place (a sparse retreat, not a resort) where your pride of "me and mine" and the habits of possession can fall apart. Do this with awareness.

Note that the difficulty in practicing spirituality without material prosperity lies not only in the fact that "it is hard to preach to an empty stomach," but also in the fact that spirituality, if not balanced, could lead to forced austerity, and eventually bitter dogmatism. Even at its best, practiced as a completely self-sufficient existence turned towards inner beauty, spirituality could become self-centered and deny the realities of the daily life. In this sense, it still may not create a better world.

President Obama emphasized the need for "giving" as a value when you become materially prosperous. I would like to point out that incorporating spirituality also includes encouraging the innate goodness that humans seem to possess, which will the government can encourage by creating institutions in which doing the right things can lead to prosperity (such as success without having to succumb to corruption, very much needed in India), and in which the right moral values get highlighted (such as regulating greed, very much needed in the U.S.).

Beauty Pageant Preparations: Hair Accessories for your Little Girl

Beauty Pageant Preparations: Hair Accessories for your Little Girl

More and more parents are entering their girls into beauty pageants because it allows their princess to strut across the stage and show her beautiful smile in an adorable dress and a little jewelled tiara. Recent movies have added to this trend as popular films such as Little Miss Sunshine showcasing children’s beauty pageants.

Hair accessories can add to your child’s adorable look by adding a bit of flare to their outfit. What you have to ensure is that you choose the right hair accessory to complete her look. Keep in mind that these beauty pageants are meant to be fun, so don’t go overboard with stressing for the occasion, just do a little research and put together the cutest little costume that you can think of.

To help you put the outfit together we’ve come up with some tips on hair accessories including baby headbands and hair fascinators below:

Tips on Wearing Hair Accessories

You can’t go wrong with baby headbands that are lined with sequins and diamonds as one of the choice hair accessories for your little girl as she walks on the stage. You can also try using black velvet headbands to give her the classic look of Audrey Hepburn and Judy Garland. If you prefer sophistication, you can always have crystals in any of your hair accessories such as a diamond-encrusted hair clip.

As you prepare your daughter for the talent portion, make sure that her hair complements her pageant dress and routine. For example, a hair fascinator decorated with exotic feathers is great for a classic dance number like a musical while a simple hair clip embellished with satin ribbons looks good in a solo singing scene.

When choosing the right hair accessories, consider the colour and length of your daughter’s hair. Learn to mix and match. Don’t restrict the natural flow of the hair by putting the hair in a ponytail, use a barrette to hold her hair in place instead. Also, always remember to place the hair fascinator or hair clip properly so that her hair doesn’t cover the face.

Tiaras in Beauty Pageants

Winning the beauty pageant of course means wearing the Winners Tiara. Just like a wedding tiara, the beauty pageant tiara is also encrusted with jewels, diamonds, and other precious stones (of course most of these are replicas when it comes to our little one’s pageant).

Most Important of All

Always remember it’s not about the right baby headbands, hair clip, hair fascinator or any other of the hair accessories. It’s about your daughter enjoying the process and most of all enjoying the event when it comes to beauty pageants. Like everything in her life it should be educational and fun. So forget the stress and the competition, just put together an adorable outfit and let your daughter smile and laugh her way to the podium. Also all the tips and tricks we have provided in this article don’t just have to be for beauty pageants, they can also be used just for the family Sunday trip to Grandma’s house as a little dress up is always a fun time for mother and daughter.

Hair Accessories Direct is Australia’s top online retailer of fashionable and stylish hair accessories that include hair clips, hair claws, and baby headbands. The extensive online store also offers Swarovski-encrusted wedding tiaras and floral-designed hair fascinators.

The Eurozone Endgame: Four Scenarios

baselinescenario.com:

In the aftermath of the Irish bailout, the German proposal for a future sovereign and/or senior bank debt restructuring mechanism within the eurozone makes complete political sense to the electorate in stronger European countries. They do not want to write "blank checks" to weaker countries and to out-of-control financial institutions going forward; creditors to countries that run into trouble will face likely losses.

While the details of this "burden sharing" approach remain to be hammered out (after Sunday's announcements), there is no way for German or other politicians to backtrack on the broad strategic principles. But once this arrangement is in place, say in 2013 or thereabouts, all eurozone countries will (a) be able to sustain less debt than has recently been regarded as the norm, and (b) become vulnerable to the kinds of speculative attacks in debt markets that we have seen in recent weeks - to reduce funding rollover dangers, they will all need to lengthen the maturity of their outstanding debt.

Iran Bomb Blast Kills Nuclear Scientist Majid Shahriari In Tehran

TEHRAN, Iran — Assailants on motorcycles attached bombs to the cars of two nuclear scientists as they were driving to work in Tehran Monday, killing one and seriously wounding the other, state television reported.

The report did not say whether the two university teachers were directly involved in the country's highly controversial nuclear program.

State TV swiftly blamed Israel for the attacks. At least two other Iranian nuclear scientists have been killed in recent years in what Iran has alleged is part of a covert attempt by the West to damage its nuclear program. One of those two was killed in an attack similar to those on Monday.

The nuclear program is at the center of a bitter row between Iran on one side and the U.S. and its allies on the other. A number of world powers suspect Iran is trying to make nuclear weapons, an allegation the government denies. Tehran's refusal to limit some of its nuclear activities has brought on multiple rounds of U.N. sanctions against the country.

The assailants, who escaped, drove by their targets on motorcycles and attached the bombs as the cars were moving. They exploded shortly thereafter, the state TV report said.

The man killed Monday was identified as Majid Shahriari, a member of the nuclear engineering faculty at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. His wife, who was in the car with him, was wounded.

A second, separate attack in the capital Tehran seriously wounded nuclear physicist Fereidoun Abbasi. His wife was also in the car with him, and she was also wounded.

A pro-government website, mashreghnews.ir, said Abbasi held a Ph.D. in nuclear physics and was a laser expert at Iran's Defense Ministry and one of few top Iranian specialists in nuclear isotope separation.

The site said Abbasi has long been a member of the Revolutionary Guard, the country's most powerful military force. It said he was also a lecturer at Imam Hossein University, affiliated to the Guard.

Some Iranian media reported that Abbasi died after he was transferred to hospital. But Iran's official IRNA news agency said he was in stable condition in the hospital.

The attacks bore close similarities to another in January that killed Tehran University professor Masoud Ali Mohammadi, a senior physics professor. He was killed when a bomb-rigged motorcycle exploded near his car as he was about to leave for work.

In 2007, state TV reported that nuclear scientist, Ardeshir Hosseinpour, died from gas poisoning. A one-week delay in the reporting of his death prompted speculation about the cause, including that Israel's Mossad spy agency was to blame.

Do You Know Why Personal Skin Care Is A Routine?

Do You Know Why Personal Skin Care Is A Routine?

I hope this article helps you understand a little more about the reality of skin care and how you should go about taking your first steps toward a healthy skin.

There is no doubt on the importance of skin care. The opinion on how-to (for personal skin care) differs from person to person. Some people believe that going to beauty parlours every other day is personal skin care. Many people believe that just applying some cream, lotion or something else to your skin, every now and then, will solve their problems. Then there are people who think that personal skin care is an event that happens once a month or once a year. Still others busy themselves with ‘personal skin care’ all the time. However, personal skin care is not that complicated and neither is it that expensive (considering how beneficial it is). Personal skin care is following a routine or a procedure for attending to the needs of your skin.

You nee to determine your skin-type, even befor you start with a routine(oily, dry, sensitive, normal etc) and select the personal skin care products suitable for it (you might have to experiment with a few personal skin care products). Here is a routine that should work for most people with normal skin.

The first thing you must do on personal skin care routine is ‘Cleansing’. The three main ingredients of a cleanser are oil, water and surfactants (wetting agents). Oil and surfactants extract dirt and oil from your skin and water then flushes it out, thus making your skin clean. You might have to try a couple of cleansers before you find the one that suits you the best. Actually, you should always use soap-free cleansers. Also, you should use Luke warm water for cleansing (hot and cold water, both, cause damage to your skin). Take care that you don’t over-cleanse your skin and end up damaging your skin in the process.

The second thing on the personal skin care routine is exfoliation. Skin follows a natural maintenance process wherein it removes the dead cells and replaces them with new skin cells. Exfoliation is just a way to facilitate the skin in this process. Dead skin cells are not capable of responding to personal skin care products but still consume these products, hence preventing them from reaching the new skin cells. Thus removing dead skin cells is important in order to increase the effectiveness of all personal skin care products. Generally, exfoliation takes it place just after cleansing. As with any personal skin care procedure, it’s important that you understand how much exfoliation you need. Exfoliate 4-5 times per week for oily/normal skin and 1-2 times per week for dry/sensitive skin. Exfoliate a couple of times more in hot and humid weather.

Be aware that Personal skin care is something everyone should take care of since young, if not, when we get older we are going to see the results of not caring about ourselfes.

Ok, Next thing on personal skin care routine is moisturizers. This is one of the most important and basic things in personal skin care. Even people with oily skin need moisturisers. Moisturisers not only seal the moisture in your skin cells, but also attract moisture (from air) whenever needed. Use of too much moisturiser can however clog skin pores and end up harming your skin. The amount of moisturiser needed by your skin will become apparent to you within one week of you using the moisturiser. Also, applying the moisturiser is best when your skin is still damp.

The last thing on personal skin care routine is sunscreen. A lot of moisturizers (day-time creams/moisturisers) come with UV protection – so you can get double benefits from them. Such moisturisers are recommended for all days (irrespective of whether it is sunny or cloudy).

Again, experiment with various personal skin care products and also with the amount you need to apply. What gives you best results is the best personal skin care recipe for you. However, if you have some kind of skin dilemma, it is best to consult your dermatologist before you actually start using any personal skin care products.

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing—the more you understand about personal skin care, the more you will be able to prevent skin problems.

Camp Essentials TRINIDAD

Camp Essentials TRINIDAD

With Christmas fast approaching, while children set out to enjoy their time off from school, parents have a million things to do and wea??re scrambling, looking for somewhere safe to place them. We still have to work a?|we need to take care of errands and last-minute shoppinga?|then there are chores at home.

Camp Essentials is hosting a two week Christmas day-camp for children ages 5 to 17. The camp will run from 8:30am to 2:30pm each day between December 14th and 24th at the St. Josepha??s Boysa?? RC School. Outside camp hours, there would be supervision between 7:00am and 4:00pm. Not only does Camp Essentials expose the campers to a wide range of activities, but parents can be assured that the venue is very well secured, with a nurse on site should any emergency arise.

Though a camp with provisions for children ages 5 to 7 may seem like a really wide bracket, one huge a??discoa?? is not to be anticipated at Camp Essentials. Children are grouped according to their ages; so the only time your 5 year old will ever see my 17 year old (apart from breaks and at lunch- for which supervision is efficient) is during swimming trips, field trips and open secessions like talent shows or show and tell- to which parents are most welcomed. Actually, since parents are expected to be protective of their a??babiesa?? spur-of-the-moment visits are never discouraged.

Instead of sitting at home, here is an opportunity for kids to make new friends while they have fun and enjoy Christmas.

CAMP ESSENTIALS was established in 2005.

Meedan: Brotherhood slogan under fire as Egypt takes to the polls

As Egyptians head to the ballot boxes today to vote in parliamentary elections, and amid reports of a crackdown against leading opposition group the Muslim Brotherhood, Kate Goodin looks at the campaign trail debate in the Arab press, and particularly in Egypt, on the meaning of the controversial Brotherhood slogan "Islam is the Solution."

Controversy over the slogan opened up a broader discussion on the role of religion in society, the Muslim Brotherhood's history, and the right way to solve Egypt's problems.

Mahmoud Ghazlan, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, defends the slogan on the organization's website, explaining that "Islam is the solution" means that Islam is the basis for remedying human rights abuses in Egypt, and enumerates Islamic foundations for the principles of public freedoms and human rights, such as freedom of religion and freedom of expression.

Sami Al-Beheiry, however, takes the slogan as an insult to Egyptians' faith:

I would have understood the widespread of such slogan in a non-Muslim country, in order to invite its people to Islam. However, raising this slogan in a Muslim country means that whoever raised it does not consider this country Muslim.

:?? ???? ?? ????? ??? ?????? ?? ??? ??? ?????? ????? ???? ??? ??????? ? ???? ?? ????? ?? ??? ?????? ?????? ?? ????? ?????? ?? ??????? ?? ??? ????? ??? ????????

Zine El Abidine Al-Rekabi explains in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat:

There is an abysmal gap between the "Islam is the Solution" slogan and "practical solutions" that would actually be able to solve the world's problems, and Muslim's problems for that matter.

??? ???????? ??????? ?????: ?? ?????? ????? ??? ??? ???? (??????? ?? ????) ???? (???? ?????) ???? ??? ????? ?? ?????? ??????? ??????? ???????? ??? ???.

Amr al-Shobaki, writing in leading Egyptian independent paper Al-Masry Al-Youm, sees the motto as an example of the organization's stagnancy:

The Brotherhood has been using this motto since the 1987 elections and has failed to re-assess it since then. During this time, the political map of the world has changed, communism has collapsed, yet the Brotherhood--much like the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP)--have remained stationary, using the same old political discourse and offering nothing new.

Egyptian intellectual Sayed Al-Qimni argues on his blog that this slogan is un-Islamic and bad for the country:

The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) practiced politics and military strategies with worldly logic. This teaches Muslims a great lesson; achieving worldy purposes cannot be done except through worldly methods. [...]This slogan is against science, because if, in our religion, there was the single solution for all the problems of the world, then this means that Muslims would focus solely on Islam and not investigate solutions and achievements made by other nations.

???? ??? ??????? (?) ??????? ? ???????????? ????? ?????? ? ??????? ????? ???????? ???? ????? ?? ...... ?? ????? ??????? ???????? ?? ????? ??? ?????? ??????. ? ?? ???? ?? ????? , ???? ?? ??? ???? ?? ???? ??? ????? ?????? ????? ?? ????? ? ?? ???? ?????? , ????? ??? ?? ??? ???????? ????? ????? ?? ??????? ???? ? ??? ????? ?? ?????? ? ??????? ???? ?????? ????? ?

Bassem al-Khafagy, writing in the Egyptian paper Al-Wasat, criticises 'Islam is the solution' as a flawed idea poorly executed:

Some of those who say today that "Islam is the solution", merely use the slogan, but their political and humanistic practices do not indicate that they have chosen Islam as a solution for their own problems. I don't see how we can say something then do another thing completely, then mourn the fact that people do not believe us or sympathize with us.

??? ??? ??????? ????? ?? ?? "??????? ?? ????" .. ???????? ?????? ???? ???? ????????? ???????? ?? ????????? ?? ???? ???? ?? ??????? ??? ??????? ???? ????????? ??? ??? ???? ??? ???? ?? ?? ????? ????? ?? ?? ?????? ????? ?? ???????? ????

Al-Khafagy summarizes Egyptian political thinking into four camps:

Some will raise the "Islam is the Solution" slogan, while others would say "Democracy is the Solution", and a third group would stress that "Stability is the Solution", but the majority would assert that "There is No Solution".

???? ????? ???? "??????? ?? ????" .. ?????? ??????? "??????????? ?? ????" .. ????? ????? "????????? ?? ????" .. ????? ???? ???? ????? ?? ?? ????? ???? "?? ???? ??"

Akram Al-Qassas criticizes the MB use of the slogan in the independent Egyptian newspaper Youm7:

The Muslim Brotherhood too has found the chance to stir controversy over their ambiguous slogan that says both nothing and everything. They know very well that religion is the one thing most Egyptians can agree upon. What they fail to acknowledge is that those standing for office are human beings - not angels and certainly not gods. Accordingly, it is humans - and not the faith - which stands to win or lose.

? : ????? ??????? ?? ?????? ?????? ???? ????? ??? ?????? ?????? ???? ?? ???? ???? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?????? ?? ????? ?? ???? ?? ???? ???? ????????? ????? ???????? ?? ????? ??????? ???? ?????? ??? ????? ??? ?? ???? ????? ??? ???? ?????? ???????? ?? ???? ??? ????.

Hassan Nifaa writes in Al-Masry Al-Youm, that while he disagrees with the slogan, the ban is simply an attempt to crack down on opposition:

The slogan "Islam is the solution" may not be the solution, but it isn't the problem either. The real problem is that President Mubarak refuses to entertain the idea of change of power, insisting on remaining in charge until his "last breath," after which the top job will be bequeathed to Mubarak Jr. When the ruling elite accept the idea of alternation of power on principle, it will be a whole lot easier to adjust the relationship between religion and state!

???? ???????? ?? ????? ?? ?? ???? ?? ????, ???? ??? ??????? ????. ??????? ???????? ???? ?? ??? ?????? ????? ???? ????? ?????? ?? ?????? ??????? ??? ????????? ?? ????? ??? ???? ???? ???? ??? ?????? ????? ?? ????. ???? ???? ?????? ??????? ???? ????? ?????? ?? ??? ?????? ???? ???? ??? ??? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ???? ??????? ??? ????? ????????!

Ladies Fashion Online

Ladies Fashion Online

Most women like to be able to access fashionable clothing, but if you work it is hard to get to the shops before closing time. That leaves the weekend which is usually taken up doing stuff with the children, catching up with the housework or going out. So one of the best ways to find something new to wear is to boot up the computer and look for women’s fashion online.

When you buy clothing online you don’t have to worry about beating the clock to closing time, rushing out to pick up the kids from school, getting home to cook tea or anything else. You have done all those things and the kids are safely tucked up in bed. You have some spare time and what better way to spend it than shopping online?

There are many clothing sites that sell ladies fashion clothing and when you shop online you can often get something that is not available in the local store. For those women who hate to see someone else wearing the same top or dress that they just bought – and don’t we all – this is a great way to avoid it.

These days of casual wear you can’t have too many women’s fashion tops – but having a lot of tops often means that you could be found wearing exactly the same top as your neighbour. But when you buy fashion tops online you will find that there are so many more styles and colours than are available in your favourite bricks and mortar store, and the customers are spread over such a wide area, that you are highly unlikely to find anyone else wearing the same top as yours.

The prices of clothing online are very reasonable too. Online clothing stores do not have the same overheads as real time stores so they can pass the savings on to you. Better still, when you shop online you can purchase clothing from the US or another country and have it delivered to your doorstep.

Fashion Boutiue is an owner of a small fashion store for men, women and children.

Maxine Waters Ethics Case: Email Doesn't Appear To Provide Link To Alleged Conflict

WASHINGTON — A recently discovered e-mail, which forced postponement of Rep. Maxine Waters' ethics trial, appears to bring the House ethics committee no closer to proving she tried to obtain a U.S. bailout – during the financial crisis – for a bank where her husband owns stock.

Waters, a California Democrat and a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, was to go on trial Monday before an ethics panel of eight congressional colleagues. She has maintained her innocence, and has been demanding for months that the trial be held.

The new evidence is an e-mail written by her chief of staff Mikael Moore, who also is Waters' grandson. It said Waters was closely watching the writing of bailout legislation that included a provision to help minority-owned banks. But OneUnited Bank – where Waters' husband is a stockholder – wasn't mentioned, even though it was among the institutions that could have benefited from the provision.

A key question is whether Waters instructed Moore to get assistance for OneUnited, when her husband's investment in the Boston-based institution was in danger of becoming worthless during the near-financial collapse of late 2008.

Waters has contended she was simply trying to help all minority banks in trouble – and specifically those, like OneUnited, that were hurt by their investments in the then-collapsing mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

In its public document that charged Waters earlier this year with three ethics violations, and now in the staff chief's e-mail, the ethics committee has so far failed to establish that Waters' efforts were for OneUnited rather than a larger group of banks.

Ethics trials are rare. Last week, the ethics committee recommended that the House publicly censure 20-term Rep. Charles Rangel of New York for fundraising and financial conduct that violated congressional rules. It was only the second House trial proceeding in the past two decades.

The chief of staff's e-mail was written by Moore on Sept. 28, 2008, to Financial Services Committee aides writing what became the Bush administration's controversial $700 billion TARP – Troubled Asset Relief Program – bailout for banks, insurance companies, auto companies and other financial institutions

Moore's memo was general rather than specific, saying the congresswoman was "under the explicit impression" that provisions affecting small and minority-owned banks were still in the bailout bill.

"If there is any material or technical changes to the language as last agreed upon, please alert me as soon as possible so that Rep. Waters has an opportunity to weigh in," Moore wrote.

OneUnited did end up receiving $12 million in bailout money, in December 2008. But Treasury Department officials have told House investigators that Waters was not involved in that decision.

House investigators have not revealed a direct link between Waters' conduct and the dispatch of bailout funds to OneUnited. And the ethics committee's case is not helped by survey responses from 28 banks which said they were in similar circumstances as OneUnited.

The survey was conducted by the Independent Community Bankers of America, which represents smaller banks across the country. The banks responding to the survey are institutions that could have benefited from the provision that Waters – according to her chief of staff's e-mail – was closely monitoring in the writing of the bailout bill.

Paul Merski, chief economist for the independent bankers, said the real number of banks in similar circumstances could be as high as 300, because only a fraction of the group's members responded.

"This was for more banks than just one bank," he said in an interview.

Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the Financial Services Committee, said in an interview that he inserted the provision for minority banks to protect OneUnited – because it is based in his state.

But he said of Waters, "I did not know she was watching" the drafting of the section. "We never discussed it," he said. "I heard from people in Massachusetts."

The provision sought by Waters – and inserted by Frank – told the Treasury Department that it should consider – for bailout money – banks that had an asset size of $1 billion or less, and whose size dropped to a lower range because they owned devalued, preferred stock in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Asset size is the total dollar amount of everything a bank owns or controls, including loans, real estate holdings, securities and office equipment.

Another difficulty in proving the violations: the provision by itself did not qualify any bank for bailout money.

All banks applying for bailout funds had to meet a number of Treasury thresholds to get the assistance. The Fannie-Freddie section merely instructed Treasury not to overlook banks that lost money due to their investments in the mortgage companies. Both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taken over by the government.

Waters has acknowledged that in early September 2008, she asked then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to arrange a meeting between Treasury officials and a trade group of minority-owned banks. The purpose was to assist institutions harmed by the devalued Fannie and Freddie stock, she said.

While Waters did not attend, the two representatives of the National Bankers Association at the meeting were OneUnited's chief executive officer and its senior counsel – who also was chairman-elect of the association. No other bank was represented.

Waters has contended that she was acting solely on the request of the association, and argued that she never made any request to Paulson on what should be done.

According to the ethics committee charges, Waters' husband, Sidney Williams, had an investment in OneUnited that was valued at more than $351,000 on June 20, 2008. It had dwindled to $175,000 by Sept. 30, 2008, the time period when Waters was monitoring the TARP legislation.

If OneUnited had not received federal financial help, the charges said, the investment could have become worthless.

Army Awards $250 Million Contract To Tiny Firm Due To 'Alaska Native' Status

What do you get when you combine affirmative action with corrupt no-bid military industrial complex gubmint cheese?

photo

Hardly unique. The ill advised attempts by federal, state and local government to divert business to minority, women, and small business firms has resulted in the creation of pass thru entities where a person who meets the requirements skims money and the government gets it's political quota. Standard governmental nonsense.

Alaska has a budget surplus according to Sarah Palin, other states (primarily California and New York) do not need to be giving it more money, they have their own money. And doesn't Palin get her government healthcare through her husband being an Alaska native?

photo
"I am very proud of what we have accomplished. All it took was a good plan, lots of luck, perseverance, people willing to take a chance and God's will to make it happen"

Well there you have it. Now gov't incompetence, fraud and waste is ... "God's will".

gman87 ? 25 minutes ago (5:59 AM)

We always joke that a company owned by a female, blind, disabled veteran Native American is the gold standard for getting a US Government contract. Under the current administration, if the female owner prefers the company of other women, that's even better.

photo

We always joke? Who is we, that's really a pathetic statement.

photo

And it was proven that under the former administration, all you needed was to be connected to the vice President... Haliburton (cough cough)....[rolling eyes]

photo
Was the job done well? If so, it sounds like a win win for all. I mean, the Military was able to circumnavigate officialdom because measures needed to be taken immediately, and they found a way to do that; and a small firm was given a much needed helping hand up.

Should they have waited months for three already rich and bloated firms to try and out bid one another?

photo

The job was done, but at what cost? For all we know, the $$250 million dollar contract could have been worth half that allowing this "alaska native" to pocket half the money it received. There is a reason contracts are no bid, and it's not because people are interested in keeping their profit margin at 6%.

photo
"For all we know?": I'll need to go on a little more than that thank you.

Again, if the job was done and everyone was happy, what's the beef? Seems like all parties are happy, no one is accusing this "Alaskan native" (your quotations) of any wrong doing. Why presume there was some?

I've been in Iraq for five years. I've seen all branches of the military piss away real money.

This Alaska Native contracting has long been known in the military as a strong mechanism for contractor "empowerment", just this side, and sometimes over, the line of fraud, waste and abuse. It's widely used by military contracting companies throughout CONUS, outside of Alaska. Contracting companies often identify themselves as Alaska Native companies on their letterhead.

But gay service people threaten the US military?????
